This Kitsap Public Health program is designed to support new moms with walks from spring through fall.
KITSAP COUNTY, WA — It's Mama Moves Kitsap season.
In case you haven't heard of this offering, Mama Moves is a postpartum/new parent support group incorporating the outdoors, walking and mindfulness. Two Kitsap Public Health professionals, Janet and Martitha, lead parents with strollers and baby carriers through some of Kitsap's most beautiful parks.
We know it can be challenging to stay physically active or find time to socialize when you are a new parent. Mama Moves Kitsap encourages healthy movement and social connections in a casual, baby-friendly setting.
Mama Moves Kitsap 2024 kicks off on May 3. The first walk will take place at Evergreen Rotary Park in downtown Bremerton from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Come and join us!
WHY MAMA MOVES?
Mama Moves focuses on two activities: Mindfulness and movement. Our walks are paired with a few minutes of reflection to promote physical health and social connections for new parents.
Exercise helps new parents boost energy, improve sleep, strengthen muscles, and reduce stress. Studies also show exercise can help reduce the risk of mood disorders and postpartum depression.
In other words, staying active is one of the best ways to support your mental and physical health during this new phase of your life.
