What to know about mpox

Mpox virus is part of the same family of viruses as variola virus, the virus that causes smallpox. Mpox symptoms are similar to smallpox symptoms, but milder.


Most people who get mpox recover in two to four weeks. Mpox can cause serious illness, especially in people who are immunocompromised, children, and people who are pregnant.
