A Career with Purpose in a Place You'll Love
Environmental health specialists. Registered nurses. Health promotion and community outreach specialists. Epidemiologists. IT experts. Administrative professionals. Program managers.
We are a diverse and dedicated team of about 100 people, working collaboratively in more than 20 different programs. About 75 percent of our staff are members of the Professional and Technical Employees Local 17.
Virtually all of us work at the award-winning Norm Dicks Government Center near the waterfront of a revitalized downtown Bremerton, close to shops, galleries, and restaurants.
We offer a robust and competitive benefits package, reflecting our commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of our employees and their families. Designed with flexibility in mind, our benefits allow employees to choose options that best meet their individual needs. Employees who work at least 20 hours per week on a regular schedule are eligible for health benefits.
Medical, Dental & Vision Insurance
We pay 85% to 100% of the average premium for our comprehensive group medical and dental insurance plans for full-time employees and their family members. Part-time employees receive pro-rated benefit contributions.
Employees with other coverage can choose to waive our medical and/or dental coverage and instead receive a monthly contribution to either a Flexible Spending Account for dependent/childcare costs or a Health Reimbursement Account for out-of-pocket medical, dental and vision expenses.
Life & Disability Insurance
We provide a term life insurance policy valued at $48,000 and a long-term disability insurance policy at no cost to the employee.
Employees may also choose to purchase additional coverage, including:
Supplemental life and long-term disability insurance
Dependent life insurance
Accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance
Short-term disability insurance
Retirement & Savings Plans
Eligible employees participate in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) – a defined benefit retirement plan managed by the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems. The plan is funded through combined employer and employee contributions.
Additionally, we offer access to three 457 Deferred Compensation plans, allowing employees to contribute a portion of their income toward retirement on a tax-deferred basis. These plans are similar to 401(k) plans offered in the private sector.
Professional Development
We support career growth through a continuing education allowance and paid time off for training, allowing employees to learn new skills and pursue their professional goals.
Paid Time Off
Our generous paid leave policies include:
General Leave: Eligible full-time employees accrue general leave based on years of service, starting at 18 days per year and increasing gradually up to 31 days per year after 25 years of service. General leave may be used for vacation, personal appointments, or minor illnesses.
Extended Leave: Provides 6 days per year for longer-term illness, injury, or pregnancy.
Holidays: 11 paid holidays each year, including the day after Thanksgiving and one personal floating holiday.
Bereavement Leave: Time off to grieve and manage the loss of an immediate family member.
Other Leave: We offer all state and federally mandated leave, including Family and Medical Leave, Military Leave, and other types of leave that help employees navigate significant life events.
General and extended leave accrual for part-time employees is pro-rated based on full-time equivalency.

Our vision: A safe and healthy Kitsap County for all.
