HEALTHY YOUTH SURVEY

What is the Healthy Youth Survey?

The Healthy Youth Survey (HYS) is a collaborative effort of the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Department of Health, the Department of Social and Health Service's Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery, and the Liquor Control Board.

The Healthy Youth Survey is taken every two years by students in grades 6, 8, 10, and 12 in almost 1,000 public schools in Washington. More than 200,000 youth in the state, including 6,000 from Kitsap County, took part in the most recent survey in October 2014 by answering a wide variety of questions about their health and health behaviors. All responses were voluntary and anonymous. The Healthy Youth Survey results provide state and local health organizations with needed information to plan, implement, and evaluate publicly-funded programs.

Additional information about the Healthy Youth Survey is also available from the Washington State Department of Health.
