About Nonelected Health Board Positions


The 10-member Kitsap Public Health Board is composed of five elected officials (four city officials and one county commissioner), two tribal representatives appointed by the Port Gamble S'Klallam and Suquamish tribes, and three nonelected members appointed by the Kitsap Board of County Commissioners.


Under state law (RCW 70.46.031), the three nonelected, nontribal positions must represent:

  • Public health, healthcare facilities, and providers

  • Consumers of public health

  • Other community stakeholders

Consumers of Public Health position

Term: October 2026-September 2030 (four years)

Application deadline: July 12, 2026


Who is eligible? 

Per RCW 70.46.031 position is open to Kitsap County residents who:

  • Self identify as having faced significant health inequities AND/OR

  • Self-identify as having lived experience in public health-related programs (examples provided in state law focus on social services programs like WIC, SNAP, home visiting nurse programs).

 

Per RCW 70.46.031, it is strongly encouraged that individuals from historically marginalized and underrepresented communities are given preference.
 

This position cannot be held by a city or county elected official or someone who works in healthcare or has a financial interest in healthcare services.

Other Community Stakeholders position

Term: October 2026-September 2030 (four years)

Application deadline: July 12, 2026

 

Who is eligible? 

Per RCW 70.46.031, this position is open to people who represent the following types of organizations located in Kitsap County:

  • Community-based organizations or nonprofits that work with populations experiencing health inequities in the county;  

  • Active, reserve, or retired armed services members; 

  • The business community; 

  • The environmental public health regulated community.  

    Note: Environmental public health regulated sectors include drinking water, food service, onsite sewage (septic) systems, and solid and hazardous waste.

Our Board

Our 10-member Kitsap Public Health Board is our governing body. They have broad legal authority and responsibility to protect the community's health and to enforce a variety of local, state and federal laws and regulations. They select and oversee our leadership, work with us to set our policy and priorities, approve our annual budget and enact health policies through new, local public health regulations when the need arises. This diverse group of elected officials and community representatives shares a passion for public service that contributes significantly to the health and well-being of our community.
